Stimulating and friendly sessions will encourage confidence, develop good communication skills and raise self esteem.
We use speech training, movement skills and improvisation to help children socialise, make new friends, present themselves well and overcome shyness. These important life lessons can be learned and practised through drama.
Children of all abilities and levels of interest are given the opportunity to explore and progress at their own rate with Helen O’Grady. The fully supportive and friendly environment means that all our children feel comfortable and enjoy our classes.
Our aim is for all children, whatever their abilities or personality, to grow into positive, outgoing and resilient people while respecting and valuing each other and the world around them.
We are not a stage school, but a unique, energetic and carefully designed academy promoting self-development and self-expression.
Our activities are group-based, so that all of our children feel safe, secure and able to contribute as little or as much as they feel comfortable with as their confidence grows. Working in groups also teaches children how to co-operate with others, contribute ideas, compromise and reach agreement.
We concentrate keenly on speech and language, teaching children to project their voices with expression. The children learn to express themselves clearly and vigorously.
Mime and movement is used to help the children discover body language. They learn how facial expressions and body language can enhance speech and how what they say and how they say it can affect the listener.
Improvisation in our sessions allows children to try out different responses to given scenarios. By channelling their energies in this drama setting, we are able to stimulate their imaginations, encourage creativity and teach awareness of others.
This structured play gives them the opportunity to explore a huge variety of life situations and understand how to deal with them safely. This programme teaches the basics of life skills such as judgement, wisdom and creative ability.
We are always thrilled to hear how we have helped and supported children on their life’s journey. This is what some parents say about their experience:
Erin has had a fantastic time over the years and made some great friends. From our point of view, we have seen her confidence and belief in herself grow enormously. Thank you so much for all your time, effort and infectious enthusiasm. What Erin has learnt from Helen O’Grady will be with her for the rest of her life.
Thank you for allowing Edward the opportunity to help you in your fabulous exploits, which over the years have helped increase the confidence of a very shy young Ed, into the much more self-assured person he is today.
Just to let you know that we had a great time this morning in Kinross!! All the kids were brilliant but the Youth Theatre were great

We would like to thank you for visiting the School on Tuesday. All the children were totally enthralled by your workshops.

I really believe that the last few years at drama have been so valuable. He is confident sociable and has a big personality despite his medical problems and I think you have had a large part to play in that -things could have been so different!
This is a story I have recounted to countless parents to encourage them to give your drama classes a try. I really do believe Callum, too, wouldn’t be where he is now without your help and the benefits shouldn’t be underestimated!
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy. Due to my forthcoming exams this year I have decided not to return but thank you for all the help and support the Academy has given me over the years. I am studying drama for my Standard Grade at school and I feel the drama classes have already helped me a lot.
Many thanks and best wishes to you and all your students and hopefully they will get as much out of drama as I have.
We loved the end of year performance. I’m not sure Josie would have been able to do that a year ago. Her confidence has definitely grown and she volunteered and was picked to do a reading in the church in front of the whole school at the end of term. I’m positive Drama has helped her feel more confident speaking out in public like this. Many thanks.
Thank you very much for all your help over the years, I watched Conner’s confidence grow and improve massively with the skills he learned in drama and I am so grateful for that as Conner’s difficulties certainly do hold him back in other areas
Thank you again for another year of teaching my boys to be creative and disciplined amongst so many other things. Our Saturday mornings and Helen O’ Grady are so entwined
Thank you so much for a fabulous performance on Saturday. Very impressive and delightful to see such proud and happy children!
Frances Ferguson, parent, Kinross
Thank you so much for organising last night. It was a fantastic evening and I was beaming with pride, Sandy and his group did so well. There is no doubt drama has really helped with Sandy’s confidence. Yesterday he also go through to the final of the school poetry recital which is taking place tomorrow, so he is obviously doing well at public speaking.
Mrs Robertson, parent, Newport-on-Tay
Thank you for visiting the school….Both classes thoroughly enjoyed their sessions and the teachers were full of praise for the experience you provided for the children.
Mrs D Palmer, Headteacher, St Monans Primary School
I would like to thank you so much for all the work you have put into Hannah. She has gained so much from your classes. She herself feels that if it were not for her drama classes she wouldn’t be so confident to speak out in class. Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication.
I cannot thank you enough for all that you have given me. Before I came here I was so incredibly shy, I barely talked to anybody. But you have changed me for the better, increasing my confidence which helps me both on and off stage. Thank you so much. I will always remember my time in the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy.
PS Oh – and I’ll make sure to mention you in my speech if I ever win an Oscar.
